So, one of those things that is helpful and sort of become a fad at the same time is bullet journaling. I really can’t complain about it becoming a fad, because that’s how I heard about it. However…my first attempts did not go well. I knew I had to get back to it because it actually helped me remember to take my medication on time and with diabetes that’s kind of important.
Like with everything though, the witchy has crept in, almost insidiously and has actually helped me keep up with it. So, I thought I’d share some of my ideas and such that I use. I have a hard time documenting my practise because a lot of it is either too everyday or random people cropping up, that bullet journaling has really helped. So…
1. Moon Phases - This can be as basic or as complicated as you like, or how often you track it. I simply put the phase in brackets on the other side of the date in parentheses like this [FM] for Full Moon or [WXC] For Waxing Crescent
2. Daily/Weekly Divination Pulls - A good way to track daily or weekly divination pulls is to list them in a bullet journal, that way, at the end of the week, month, or whatever, you can look back and see trends. You could also use this as a way to see trends in what you pull and what’s going on in your life at that time.
3. Sigils - Now, sigils are not a big part of my practice because of my perfectionism, but this is a useful way to imbue a day with a sigil for a particular thing without having to sew it on something or mark it on your skin, especially if you plan on carrying your bullet journal with you.
4. Quiet Time Reminders- If you are of a faith, but have a hard time remembering to pray or give offerings, a bullet journal is an easy way to remind yourself, and people who don’t worship can use this as a reminder of meditation, quiet time, or reading. As a polytheist, I find this particularly helpful in tracking to make sure I’m not losing track and accidentally snubbing anyone.
5. Spell Musings - Sometimes you just have a bit of a rhyme pop in your head, or an idea for a new working, or you do something on the fly you want to remember. Using a bullet journal means you can scribble down half-formed ideas or spontaneous castings, without having to commit them to memory in case you forget them before you have access to a spellbook, or if you’re like me and your spellcraft is more..scientific-method-y, note thins that just don’t pass muster for Big Book Status.
6. Dream Tracking - Sometimes you have a dream and your not the kind of person who regular journals these things, but this one seems important. You can put this there.
7. Deja Vu Moments: We’ve all had those moments of deja vu, and having someplace to write down these little moments can help, even if it’s just that feeling of ‘Wait, I’ve seen this before.’
There are loads of other ways bullet journaling can incorporate witchy things, this is just me sharing some I’ve come up with! If you have any more, feel free to add!
Specifically things or people that are
toxic to you in a ritual. This can be as simple as lighting a
candle-choose a color that pulls you, I like darker blues, blacks, deep
greens and silver/white for full moons.
-Cleanse your space. I like to clean with a broom, followed by an incense bath for the space.
-Write
down on a piece of paper, in as much detail as you can, about what you
want to release. Write your reasons. Why is this toxic for you? Why do
you have trouble letting go of it? What about it makes you feel
inadequate? This thing could be anything. A habit, a person, a
substance, a relationship…..anything.
-Draw a simple chalk
circle with a six pointed star in it. You could do a pentagram if you
like. Invite your elements/deities. Do this in the light of the full
moon. Closet witch tip: You can just draw a circle on a piece of scrap
paper in ink and use illustrations/sigils to represent elements/deities.
I like to work with animal gods on full moons. Ucchaishrava, Erawat,
Nandi, Hansa representing Fire, thunder and storm, earth and water.
-Put
your candle in the dead center of your circle and envision all your
elements/deities, with the moon as your witness, focusing on this. Light
the candle and burn the paper.
-As you are burning the paper,
envision all of the toxicity burning away and leaving fertile ground
pulsing with energy in its wake.
-The materials that remain behind
should be disposed of before morning rolls around. Close circles. Thank
elements/deities. Thank Moon. Cleanse space. I like to immerse remains
in flowing water. If the materials are toxic to nature though, don’t do
this. Put them in a safe bag and dump them in a dumpster.
2. Charging Crystals
I
like to charge crystals related to cleansing, clarity, peace, healing,
comfort, happiness and other such qualities on full moons. You can do
this for whatever crystals you like.
-Cleanse your space.
-Draw your preferred circle in your method.
-Invite your deities/elements into the circle.
-Place crystal dead center of the circle.
-Visualize
your elements/deities, with the moon as your witness, concentrating
their power on the crystal and infusing it with their energy. I like to
visualize pulses of energy around the crystal, lifting it into the
ether. Visualize the crystal pulsing with this energy, like its waking
up from a slumber. Thump. Thump. Thump goes the crystal.
-Meditate
on the crystal. I like to play drums, dance around or chant to it, to
harmonize energies and to welcome the awakened crystal in the physical
space. I can’t stand sitting still and breathing. If you can, be my
guest.
-Thank deities/elements. Close circle. Cleanse space. Put crystal in bag. Dispose of remains.
3. Charge Instruments of Manifestation
These
could be anything. Cameras, musical instruments, dance shoes,
ghunghroos, paint brushes, paint, canvas, sketchbooks, composition
books, laptops, typewriters, clay, sculpting tools, wood, inks, tablets,
lenses, fabric, sewing machines, wands, knives, chopping boards,
utensils, research notebooks, pens, pencils, markers, journals, tarot
cards, oracle cards, crystal balls, pendulums, divination boards,
herbs…..you get it. Charge them with the energy of the moon and your
deities/elements. The same method as charging crystals applies.
4. Moon Bathe cuz you’re an instrument of manifestation too
5. Edibles
For
my kitchen witches. Prep your favorite food and let it sit under the
moon absorbing its rays and energies. I like to do this near midnight
and with my favorite desserts and then I eat them. Cuz I like to eat.
For
hedge witches and healers, prep your potions, brews, salves, bath
salts, talismans and let them sit under the moon till dawn. They will be
stronger and more in harmony with your intentions.
6. Dream work
If
you want to dream walk, work on lucid dreaming, astral travel etc Full
Moons are prime time for that. Project a circle around yourself and
invite your deities/elements to protect your psychic body from attacks.
And then get to dreaming. Thank elements, close circle and write down
your observations upon waking/surfacing.
I’ve picked up my Grimoire again and begun developing my Tarot section, (which is going to be huge and very time consuming but I am SO excited!)
Please feel free to use these pages as a guide in your own practices or as inspiration for your own BOS or Grimoire :) All I ask is that if you wish to recreate my design or wording, please credit in the description of your post!! Thank you 💕
✨Pages in my Grimoire on Tarot ✨
These pages begin my Tarot study on the symbols associated with the Major Arcana, the 4 Suites and associated zodiacs/meanings, the court cards and what they represent in meanings, numerology and their associated majors, and lastly color symbolism. this is basically all I need to do intuitive readings with the tarot!!
The next chunk of this will be meanings for each of the major arcana, based off of my own practices and what i’ve learned about their symbols.
It might have blank pages or faint lines. It might be plain and simple, or decorated and elaborate. It might be hand-made or store-bought. It might be spiral bound or perfect bound. It might even be an online blog or a hardcover notebook. You choose.
Step 2: Divide your journal into sections.
Here are a few ideas for what sections you may want to create in your Tarot journal:
Tarot card meanings - one page for each Tarot card where you can jot down your personal insights and stories associated with the card. You can also create picture collages, write poems, build word clouds, or write fictional stories to help you build a personal connection with the Tarot card meanings.
Personal Tarot readings - space to record the date of your reading, your question, the cards drawn and the key messages. Come back to the reading in a few weeks or months and reflect on what has come to pass.
Tarot reading techniques - collect your notes on how to shuffle, ask the right questions, select the cards, and so on.
Tarot spreads - collate your favorite Tarot spreads or even create your own.
Personal reflection - you may be working with a particular energy (e.g. letting go), so pick a Tarot card that embodies that energy (e.g. the Hanged Man) and journal about what that card means to you and how you can tap into its deeper lessons.
Tarot decks - if you have multiple Tarot decks, like I do, you can write when you can use which deck.
Step 3: Start writing!
Write about all the experiences the tarot deck gives you, write everything that comes to your mind.
Your natal chart is a snapshot of the sky when you were born.
The constellations take up equal amounts of real estate in the sky on your chart, and you stand in the middle. Imagine if you could look up at the sky and see every planet clearly. All of the constellations along the ecliptic have divided their respective chunks of sky into their own unique territories, like a clock–these are the signs. 12 to 1 is Aries, 1 to 2 is Taurus, and so on.
You are at the center of this clock, but the clock has many hands. The clock has a hand for each planetary body, for your ascendant, for your midheaven, etc.
Ignore ascendant and midheaven for a moment–the planetary bodies go around the clock at the speed of their planetary orbits. The Pluto hand CRAWLS around the clock. The Mercury hand speeds around it in a tizzy. They go around and around and around and then–
Someone slams the big red button. All of the clock’s hands stop. Why? Because you were brought into the universe.

What Makes a Zodiac Sign?
Back in ye olde Greek days, ancient astronomers noticed that the whole sky of stars all moved together (we know now that it’s because the Earth is spinning and orbiting the sun). However, there were some lights that traversed through the canvas of stars and moved at a different pace–they named them “planets,” which translates to “wanderer.” They also noticed that all of the planets (and the sun and moon!) moved across the same line in the sky–this line is called the ecliptic.
There’s tons of constellations–probably hundreds!–but there’s only twelve that intersect with the ecliptic. These are the zodiac signs.
Whenever someone says that “the sun is in Taurus” or “Saturn is in Capricorn,” that planet is literally traversing through that particular constellation in the sky. And that’s pretty cool, imo.

Your Three Big Signs
In your natal chart:
The constellation the SUN is located in is called your sun sign. Back when the Greeks invented the Zodiac, the Earth was the middle of the universe–not the sun, as we know to be true now. Your sun sign represents you at your core. Your true self.
The constellation the MOON is located in is called your moon sign. This sign represents your internal self. How you react to things on the inside. How you perceive things.
Your ASCENDANT or RISING sign is the constellation that was ascending on the eastern horizon at the specific time and location you were born. This sign also determines your MIDHEAVEN, because your ascendant determines the starting point for your houses. Your ascendant sign is how other people view you. Your “external mask” (or, as I like to call it, your “customer service face” haha). It is your first, natural reaction to new situations.

A Clock Within A Clock
Next, there’s houses. House I is your ascendant, and each following house goes in rotation through the Zodiac signs (unless you land on a cusp). This second circle of shenangigans is overlaid on top of the “clock” we talked about earlier. This is why you need someone’s birth location in addition to their birth time when you do their natal chart. Without it, you don’t know what sign was on the horizon when they were born. It’s important to note that for some weird reason, not every house is the same size? Some are smaller than others, unlike the perfectly spaced out constellations.
The Houses:
House I is the house of self and self-image. (ASCENDANT)
House II is the house of self-worth and money.
House III is the house of communication.
House IV is the house of home, family, roots, and security. (IMUM COELI) [1st mystical house]
House V is the house of creative self-expression, romance, creativity, pleasure.
House VI is the house of health and service.
House VII is the house of relationships and other people. (DESCENDANT)
House VIII is the house of transformation and sexuality. [2nd mystical house]
House IX is the house of belief systems and higher learning.
House X is the house of career, responsibility, and reputation. (MIDHEAVEN)
House XI is the house of aspirations, personal goals, and groups.
House XII is the house of self-undoing, privacy, secrets, and soul growth. [3rd mystical house]
Other important parts of a natal chart include the MIDHEAVEN, the IMUM COELI, and the DESCENDANT:
Your MIDHEAVEN is the cusp of the 10th house of the natal chart, and represents our visible achievements in the eyes of society (basically, your reputation). It’s our “public face” as opposed to the more personal face of the ascendant.
Your DESCENDANT sign is on the cusp of the 7th house of the natal chart–directly across from your ascendant–and represents the type of person you are the most attracted to (and that are attracted to you). These are people you easily get along with.
Your IMUM COELI (Latin for “bottom of the sky”) is on the cusp of the 4th house, across from the midheaven. The Imum Coeli is said to refer to our roots and also to the least conscious part of ourselves. It symbolizes foundations, beginnings in life, what may have been experienced through parental inheritance and homeland influences, need for security and relationships with the home and family life. It also may describe the circumstances that we will encounter at the end of our lives.

So what do we get when we combine all of these? Well, I’m glad you asked!
PLANETS tell us WHAT is happening.
ZODIAC SIGNS tell us HOW it’s happening.
HOUSES tell us WHERE it’s happening.
For example:
MERCURY in ARIES in the FIRST HOUSE could be interpreted as:
This person is very quick-witted and sharply intelligent. It is very important to them that others know that they are intelligent. They are unafraid to argue and butt heads with others.
So, you love astrology but have just realised that you are no longer just your sun sign. It’s a confusing and intimidating thing for a beginner astro-witch to see. That’s why I have decided to create a little guide to help anyone out. This will be the very basics but will be added to over time. Baby steps for baby-witches.
Terminology
Sun Sign = The controller. This is your main sign. The sign you have known your whole life thinking that’s where it ended.
Moon Sign = Your inner-self. Your emotions, inner-thoughts, wants and needs are all controlled by your moon sign.
Ascendant/Rising = Acceptably called either, the Ascendant/Rising is your natural mask in the face of society. So basically, this is how people view you.
Mercury = A very important sign, it rules your decision making mind. It is how you communicate and can be easy to spot in a person.
Venus = This sign rules love and finances.
Mars = Most represent Mars with anger, and this is true. But it is so much more than that. This sign rules our animal instincts, energy, action and sexual desires.
Jupiter = This sign covers rules both generosity, tolerance and wisdom.
Saturn =This sign represents fears, our limitations and responsibility
Uranus = This sign is all about individuality. Progressiveness, forward-thinking and fresh-starts.
Neptune = This sign rules the subconscious. Dreams, psychic-sensitivity and inspiration.
Pluto = This sign represents rebirth. New-beginnings and growth.
